ViaHonest: Building Trust Infrastructure for Physical Commerce on Polygon

The problem with buying and selling physical goods online

Online commerce has scaled to billions of transactions — but for physical goods where authenticity is everything, the experience is still fundamentally broken.

If you've ever bought sneakers, streetwear, art, a handmade piece, or a collectible online, you know the friction: How do you know it's real? What happens if the seller takes your money and never ships? Why does the marketplace take such a large cut? And once you own something, how do you ever prove it's authentic when you go to resell it?

Sellers feel it from the other side. High marketplace fees eat into margins. There's little protection against fraudulent chargebacks. And the trust that took years to build with buyers doesn't travel with the product.

The core issue is the same on both sides: there's no shared, verifiable layer of trust attached to the physical item itself.

That's the problem ViaHonest was built to solve.

What ViaHonest is

ViaHonest is a marketplace for physical goods that works the way people already expect a marketplace to work — you browse, you list, you buy. The difference is underneath: every item can be given a verifiable digital identity on the blockchain.

You don't need to understand crypto to use it. The technology stays in the background. What you see is a cleaner, safer, more rewarding way to buy and sell real things.

Here's what ViaHonest gives sellers and buyers:

  • List for free. Sellers pay nothing to list an item — only a low 2.5% fee when it actually sells, versus the 10–20% common on traditional marketplaces.
  • Verifiable authenticity. Each item can be paired with a QR-verifiable digital certificate of authenticity on Polygon. Anyone can scan it to confirm the item is genuine and trace its ownership history.
  • Escrow-protected deals. The buyer pays, the seller ships, the buyer verifies the item, and only then are funds released. Both sides are protected.
  • Flexible payments. Buyers can pay with crypto, or onboard with a card through a fiat-to-crypto flow — with settlement handled underneath on Polygon.
  • Resale royalties. Sellers can continue to earn when their items are resold in the future.

This isn't a concept or a roadmap promise. It's a live product today. A seller can register, list an item, certify it on-chain, and complete a sale — with the buyer paying in fiat or stablecoin. Our first sellers are already onboarded, our first sales have happened, and the community is growing as we build.

Why we built ViaHonest on Polygon

For a marketplace, the blockchain you choose isn't a branding decision — it's an infrastructure decision that shapes whether the entire model works. We've been building on Polygon from the start, for a few concrete reasons.

Low, predictable transaction costs. Issuing a certificate for every item and settling every sale only makes economic sense if fees are minimal. Polygon's low costs are what make per-item authenticity certification and on-chain settlement viable at marketplace scale.

A payments-first network. Polygon is increasingly focused on real-world payments and stablecoin settlement — the direction set out in its Open Money Stack vision. That aligns precisely with what ViaHonest is: every transaction on our platform is a real settlement between a buyer and a seller. We're not using the chain as a gimmick — we're using it as a payment rail, and as Polygon's payments infrastructure matures, that's a direction we're watching closely for where the platform goes next.

An ecosystem built on trust. Some of the most recognized consumer brands in Web3 have chosen Polygon. When your entire product is about establishing trust in physical goods, it matters to build where that trust already lives.

Proven, scalable, and developer-friendly. Polygon is EVM-compatible, battle-tested, and fast enough to support real commerce without the friction or unpredictability that would break a consumer marketplace.

For crypto projects: turn merch into a marketing engine

There's a second side to ViaHonest built specifically for crypto projects — and it's where the Polygon ecosystem fits most naturally.

Every project wants physical merch. Hoodies, caps, and tees for the community; limited, exclusive pieces for the people who matter most. But traditional merch is a dead end: you ship a hoodie, the transaction ends, and you learn nothing about who's wearing it. The physical object and your on-chain community live in two separate worlds.

ViaHonest connects them. A project can launch its own merch on ViaHonest — sell it, or hand it out to the community for free — and every item ships with a QR-verifiable certificate of authenticity on Polygon. That certificate is what turns merch from a one-off sale into a marketing instrument:

  • It captures on-chain data you can actually use. Every piece of merch is tied to a wallet on Polygon. That gives you a verifiable, on-chain map of who your most engaged holders are — which you can feed directly into airdrops, allowlists, token-gated rewards, and future activations. The hoodie stops being a dead end and becomes a data point.
  • It works as an access pass. Holding a certified item can gate entry to private channels, event guest lists, or early access to your next release — status and utility, not just a souvenir.
  • It's a public engagement signal. Top holders are visible on-chain, so you can segment and reward your real community without standing up a CRM from scratch.
  • It demonstrates real on-chain activity. Every purchase settles on Polygon — a live, real-world use case rather than a slide in a deck.

Projects can offer the full range: standard everyday merch (tees, hoodies, caps, bottles, totes) and exclusive one-of-a-kind pieces (signet rings, jewelry, leather goods, even premium items like trunks or luggage) — the kind of pieces that turn merch into a genuine collectible, especially paired with an on-chain certificate.

And the project doesn't have to build any of it. ViaHonest provides three things end-to-end: the marketplace itself (storefront, checkout, escrow, payments), the digital certification layer, and worldwide shipping with tracking. Production and fulfillment stay with the project or its merch partner; we're the infrastructure that makes the physical item verifiable, sellable, and connected to your on-chain community.

For the Polygon ecosystem specifically, this is a way for any project building on Polygon to run a phygital activation — a community drop, a premium collectible, a conference giveaway with on-chain claim codes — that generates real wallet engagement and real on-chain activity, with none of the operational lift.

Who ViaHonest is for

Sellers of physical goods. If you sell sneakers, streetwear, art, handmade items, merch, or collectibles, ViaHonest is built for you. You list for free, protect your buyers with escrow, prove your items are authentic with on-chain certificates, and keep earning royalties on future resales. Art and independent creators are a particular focus — a verifiable certificate of authenticity does for a physical artwork exactly what collectors have always wanted: proves it's real, and proves who owned it.

Crypto projects and communities. As above — launch merch, capture on-chain engagement data, and turn physical items into a marketing and rewards engine, without handling the marketplace, certification, or logistics yourself.
