The Battle of the Morannon, also known as the Battle at the Black Gate, was the decisive clash that led to the destruction of the One Ring and the final victory over Sauron. The Army of the West marched to the Black Gate to distract Sauron’s Eye while Frodo and Sam attempted to enter Mordor and cast the Ring into Mount Doom. Leading the host were Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, and Pippin. When the Black Gate opened, a countless horde of orcs poured out, giving the Dark Lord overwhelming numbers. The army of the West was surrounded and pushed to the brink. At that moment, the Great Eagles appeared, soaring above the battlefield and striking at Sauron’s forces, giving the heroes a chance to hold their ground. Suddenly, the orc army halted and the Black Gate collapsed. This happened at the very moment the Ring was destroyed, along with Sauron’s power.
